Ghanaian Security Expert, Mr. Adam Bonaa, has urged Ghanaians to avoid attacking Nigerians residing and working in the country because of unpopular media allegations and reports.
He said even though it is a fact that there are currently lots of Nigerians in the country and some have been arrested for criminal activities, it is a wrong notion to blame all Nigerians in the country for crimes like kidnapping becoming rampant.
According to Mr. Bonaa, research indicates that ninety-nine percent of Nigerians are integrating well into the Ghanaian society and doing good business, but “the one percent are into nefarious activities; committing crimes, prostitution and other illegal activities” he said.
He said Ghanaians should hand alleged criminals over to the police and allow the laws of the country to deal with such situations, emphasizing that, Ghana’s laws do not permit citizens to attack and street beat lawbreakers.
Touching on kidnapping, he said the phenomenon is becoming rampant in the country because many of Ghana’s neighbors are fleeing from conflict situations in their country. But it is rather unfortunate that some of these people who come into the country are miscreants and are exploiting Ghana’s peaceful environment and introducing some Ghanaians to crimes like kidnapping.
He said Ghanaian leaders must hold meetings with Nigerian communities and their leaders in the country to discuss strategic ways to uproot crime activities from amongst their people.
