President of the West Africa Institute of Mining, Dr. Peter Amponsah-Mensah, has noted that, the mining industry in the country will ensure that ATIWA forest does not lose its natural state even as it goes in to carry out mining activities.
He said Bauxites found in ATIWA forest will be mined safely and profitably since God has given the professionals wisdom and technology to do so adequately.
“We will do our best and everything reasonably possible to maintain the virginity of the forest. Where we have to take something out of the forest, we will put in place systems and structures that will make us take things properly so we can meet the environmental and social license of the area” he said.
He said mining is a way of getting people with the interest of tilling the ground to do so profitably and environmentally friendly, while meeting required social licenses.
He noted, mining is a friendly occupation and it is important for people to start seeing and accepting it as such, emphasizing that, even though in the past, it wasn’t done with a lot of technology and health and safety in mind, nowadays society demands that miners do things properly and sustainably.
